Ask The Experts: Belize goes past 200 COVID-19 cases

Posted: Wednesday, August 12, 2020. 4:25 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Director of Health Services Dr. Marvin Manzanero led off today’s edition of Ask The Experts.

Up to Sunday, 42 positive cases were recorded from the samples tested over the weekend.

23 of 115 samples tested positive on Monday, with cases reported in San Pedro Town, Belize City, Caye Caulker and elsewhere.

There is cause for national concern about a cluster of cases from a construction site in San Pedro Town, some of whom left the island shortly after the identification of patient 57, forcing MOH personnel to spread out to the North and Cayo to hunt down cases.

Other clusters were linked to Allure Nightclub and Living Word Church.

Tuesday’s case load saw 33 positive cases, including one hospitalized in the Northern Regional Hospital, Orange Walk Town and another critical with respiratory distress at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), having been transferred from the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan.
