By BBN Staff: Police have arrested and charged a Guatemalan man who they believe is responsible for a spate of vandalism that occurred in Belmopan recently, where the culprit spray painted the name of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) criminal gang in several places including a church.
Police say that the man is Hector Tiul Gutierez, 20, a Guatemalan laborer of Salvapan Ext. Area, Belmopan. He faces charges for using an identifying sign to promote a gang related activity and damage to property, and was additionally charged with the immigration offence of failing to produce a visitor’s permit.
Between August 8-9 it is believed that Gutierez vandalized the Belmopan Church of the Nazarene located on East Ring Road, the Market Square gazebo and nearby Independence Park.
