Ministry of Health issues warning about entities conducting COVID-19 testing

Posted: Thursday, August 13, 2020. 7:21 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Health (MOH) says that it has become aware of private entities advertising that they perform COVID-19 testing, and warns the general public that the Ministry is the only authorized body that can legally conduct such tests.

The MOH’s advisory, issued today, said that some companies and even individuals are advertising services for PCR and rapid testing, while others are even advertising the service of facilitating the importation of COVID-19 test kits for purchase in Belize.

“The Customs and Excise Department has issued an advisory that the clearance of any SARS-Cov2 test kit will not be approved without prior authorization from the Ministry of Health,” the Ministry said. “It is advised that if test kits are still being imported, persons run the risk of having the items confiscated.”

The MOH also said that legitimate testing is done by way of the Central Medical Laboratory and warned the public to be aware of anyone offering to conduct any type of testing for COVID-19.
