By Aaron Humes: The House shared congratulations for a bipartisan effort on behalf of the Garifuna people of Honduras.
Following the National Garifuna Council briefing five former Ministers of Foreign Affairs, they collectively and jointly wrote Prime Minister Dean Barrow to have a note of protest and inquiry sent to Tegucigalpa.
The P.M. coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by Wilfred Elrington to communicate with President Juan Orlando Hernandez.
The Area Representatives from Stann Creek District – Frank “Pawpa” Mena and Rodwell Ferguson – added their congratulations.
Five community leaders were abducted at gunpoint by men dressed as police officers, according to Mena, and have not been heard from since. Others are reported killed in what appears to be a coordinated attack on behalf of tourism industry concerns.
