Posted: Monday, August 17, 2020. 9:38 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Over the weekend the Belize Police Department arrested and charged 188 people for offenses under the State of Emergency (SOE) regulations.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams issued an update this morning, noting that  128 people were arrested for failing to wear a cloth mask or other face (mouth) covering whilst in public. Another 52 were arrested for breaching curfew, seven people were arrested for failing to practice social distancing, and a preacher was arrested for having more people in the church than currently allowed by the SOE.

Williams issued an appeal over the weekend, calling on Belizeans to adhere to the SOE regulations to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
