By BBN Staff: The National Hurricane Center is closely monitoring a broad area of low pressure located about 900 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.
The system is producing a concentrated area of showers and thunderstorms.
The NHC notes that environmental conditions are conducive for further development, and a tropical depression is likely to form within the next couple of days.
The system is forecast to move westward to west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph across the central and western portions of the tropical Atlantic.
It has a high (70 percent) chance of formation during the next 48 hours and a high (90 percent) chance during the next five days.
