By BBN Staff: Director of Health Services, Dr. Marvin Manzanero said today that the Central Medical Laboratory will only be doing PCR testing for COVID-19 once a week for people wanting to leave the country and only under priority conditions.
Manzaneo explained that the lab is currently overwhelmed with tests and as such will only process tests for students who study abroad that need to leave the country to return to their schools and for those who want to leave the country for medical purposes.
Manzanero stressed that PCR testing is currently still the gold standard for testing for COVID-19 and that rapid testing can take some time to achieve a definitive result because a negative test result still needs to go through a validation process to avoid a “false negative.”
