Guinea Grass residents mobilize for protest against lockdown

Posted: Wednesday, August 19, 2020. 11:39 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Residents of Guinea Grass Village in Orange Walk are mobilizing for a peaceful protest at the police checkpoint in the village.

The villagers are taking a stand against the lockdown implemented in the village.

A villager told BBN that the village has no bank or ATM and since the time of the shutdown, they haven’t been able to collect any salaries.

Plus, they are concerned about food and the survival of their families.

Another villager told us that there are 9 confirmed cases in the village but in other parts of the country, there are more cases and there are no lockdown measures implemented.

The residents are hoping that the government reconsiders its decision on the lockdown of their village.
