National Hurricane Center monitoring disturbance with 90% chance of formation

Posted: Wednesday, August 19, 2020. 9:54 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring a disturbance in the Atlantic with 90 percent chance of formation within the next 48 hours.

The elongated area of low pressure is located a little more than 1,000 miles east of the Windward Islands.

The system continues to produce a concentrated area of showers and thunderstorms mainly on the west side of the disturbance.

The NHC notes that environmental conditions are conducive for further development, and a tropical depression is expected to form during the next day or two while the system moves generally west-northwestward at 15 to 20 miles per hour across the central and western portions of the tropical Atlantic.
