Fishing restriction last week sniffed out “fake fishermen” trying to leave San Pedro

Posted: Saturday, August 22, 2020. 10:31 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte earned some ire last week by restricting fishing activities on Ambergris Caye.

But tonight he said it was necessary to uncover a scheme to allow certain people to flee the island.

According to Peyrefitte there was intelligence that some persons were planning to disguise themselves as fishermen and flee the island.

With assistance from Area Representative Manuel Heredia Jr., the threat was snuffed out and fishing regulations have been restored such that fishing for sustenance is allowed but not for sport.
