National Hurricane Center: Tropical Storm Marco continues to strenghten

By BBN Staff: The National Hurricane Center’s 7a.m. advisory today indicated that the Hurricane Hunter aircraft found that Tropical Storm Marco continues to strengthen.

The center of Tropical Storm Marco was located near latitude 20.2 North, longitude 85.2 West.

  Marco is moving toward the north-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h).

 A northwestward motion is expected on Sunday, followed by a turn toward the northwest and west-northwest early next week.

Marco is expected to approach the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico today.

Data from an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate that maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts.

Marco is forecasted to strengthen during the next couple of days.

A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Punta Herrero to Cancun Mexico.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Punta Herrero to Dzilam Mexico.

This morning, the National Meteorological Service issued an advisory for the possibility of flooding near rivers in Northern Belize.
