Police officers including GSU member deliver baby at police station

Posted: Saturday, August 22, 2020. 11:39 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: Breaking Belize News (BBN) has confirmed an unusual and special delivery early this morning on Mahogany Street, involving men with some of the roughest and toughest reputations in the Belize Police Department.

The Gang Suppression Unit (GSU)’s reputation as the elite tactical fighting force of the Department against gangs has taken numerous hits.

But one of its officers and a female police constable at Precinct Two, Mahogany Street substation, were visited around 2:45 a.m. by a heavily pregnant woman seeking assistance.

Her water broke at the station and the officers held their nerve to deliver a baby girl while waiting for the ambulance.

Arriving emergency medical technicians (EMTs) cut the umbilical cord and rushed mother and child to Karl Heusner Memorial hospital where they are said to be doing well.

Kudos to all our frontline staff for ensuring that life goes on even in the midst of a pandemic.
