Posted: Monday, August 24, 2020. 10:17 am CST.

By BBN Staff: On August 3, 2020, Belizeans began submitting applications for phase 2 of the unemployment relief program.

The Unemployment Relief Program offers financial relief to workers who have been laid off because of COVID-19 and self-employed persons who have lost their jobs and income as a result of the impact of the COVID-19.

The financial relief to be provided in Phase 2 will be the same as what was provided in Phase 1:  $150 every two weeks for a 12-week period.

In a press conference on Friday, Prime Minister Dean Barrow was asked about the approval for applications for the program.

Barrow said that he didn’t have an update in terms of the applications received but that the money for the program is there.
