By Aaron Humes: As the Opposition People’s United Party moves toward the General Election, Leader John Briceno said they chose to start with education first as that is a bedrock of the future.
But health is just as important, he said. Faulting Corozal Bay area representative Pablo Marin for running amok with funds while ignoring the basics, the Opposition Leader maintained that it is time for a great leap forward.
Briceño promised refurbished hospitals in Punta Gorda and Belmopan and the long-promised one for San Pedro Town; a new wing for Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital to address non-communicable diseases.
He spoke of cheaper medicines, introduction of technology and a separate school for nursing and allied health services; and a campaign for healthier lifestyles.
Concerning financing, Briceno said $40 million was available from reforming the health system as well as monies from revising the financial terms for boledo and lottery.
“We can afford to do this; in fact, we cannot afford not to do this,” Briceno said, adding that “everybody fu win” in the new scheme of things.
