By Aaron Humes: Chief Education Officer Dr Carol Babb and her deputy Cecilia Smith are guests this afternoon’s edition of Ask The Experts.
Dr Babb called on parents to be “co-teachers” in light of early childhood education and primary schools re-opening on September 7 by distance only.
This means parents and students should collaborate on building learning spaces at home and establish a timetable for learning daily, including appropriate class and break times.
Teachers are in place to produce the initial homework packages for at least the first month, to be distributed to parents as determined by schools.
Parents are encouraged to engage with school administrators and teachers. Model lessons will be made available via Facebook and reading and writing activities are encouraged for at least 40 minutes per day.
Smith said all Belizean students will be brought in depending on the level of technology-those with access to technology are encouraged to use that.
Textbooks provided for free under the formal program will soon be distributed, she added.
