By Aaron Humes: Following a harrowing season blighted by drought and COVID-19, cane farmers are anxious to get started on preparations for the next season.
The first $1.2 million of two million dollars from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) for sugar, allocated for drought relief, will be dispersed in September alongside the funds available from the World Bank.
With additional funds approved under a new COVID-19 relief programme, a total of $5 million will be available for support to cane farmers in general – or at least those who have formally registered before May 30 of this year.
