Caribbean countries record a collective 1,000 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday

By BBN Staff: News Americas Now is reporting that 16 Caribbean countries reported a collective 1,000 positive COVID-19 cases on Wednesday.

Three countries reported triple-digit increases: The Dominican Republic – 340 new cases; Trinidad and Tobago – 159; and Jamaica – 120; while 11 others recorded double-digit increases and two countries a single-digit increase.

The countries that recorded double-digit increases were: Aruba – 90; Turks and Caicos – 48; Guyana – 33; Belize – 30; Cuba – 15; the Bahamas – 15; Haiti – 10; Suriname – 26, French Guinea – 32; Puerto Rico – 70; and Saint Marteen – 10. Meanwhile, Saint Lucia and Dominica reported one case each.

Elsewhere in the region, Saint Kitts, Anguilla, Montserrat, and Grenada are now listed as the only COVID-19 free nations in the region.

News Americas’ analysis notes that many of the countries on the list have managed to keep their COVID-19 death toll relatively low, with Curacao recording only a single death to date.
