Two Belize Sugar Industries employees test positive for COVID-19

Posted: Thursday, August 27, 2020. 6:22 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The American Sugar Refineries Groups’ Belize Sugar Industries (ASR/BSI) reported today that two of its staff members have tested positive for COVID-19.

ASR/BSI issued a statement this afternoon, saying that the company immediately began working with the Ministry of Health to perform contact tracing for the employees, and anyone found to have been in recent contact with them were placed in isolation. The company also noted that the infected employees did not have contact with customers that visited the Tower Hill Sugar Mill.

“As a part of established protocols, we immediately proceeded to deploy professional sanitization for the affected workplace areas as the health and wellbeing of all our employees and their families are of paramount importance,” ASR/BSI said.

The company says it will continue to work diligently, following all established guidelines by health authorities and encouraged Belizeans to do the same whether on or off the job.
