By Aaron Humes: CEO in the Ministry of Health Dr. George Gough has been stockpiling supplies for hospitals and clinics to continue the fight against COVID-19 and says that at this point we are comfortable in anticipation of fighting the pandemic into 2021.
Dr Gough quoted sometimes astronomical figures for the numbers of face shields, masks, hazmat suits, soap and disinfectant among many other things needed to fight the pandemic, and said much more was coming in thanks to grants from Taiwan and monies from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and so on.
There are 26 thousand test kits (PCR) and 5,000 rapid antigen tests with 10 thousand more of the latter to come.
The Ministry has persuaded multiple staff to delay retirement and is adding new hires of medical students from Cuba to start as early as Monday, and is paying 40 hours of overtime for each frontline worker due by the end of September.
The total is enough to provide for nine months’ worth of the COVID-19 fight going into the midpoint of 2021.
