By Aaron Humes: The last word, for now, on Thursday night’s events in Corozal Town comes from Pablo Marin, who wrote a reflective, religiously-tinged statement just posted on social media.
The Minister called Thursday night “one of the most difficult nights of my life.” He said he considers what he did self-defense against an armed intruder but never reckoned with what happened next.
“…I was fearful for my life…The outcome is devastating to me. My prayers, of course, are for his eternal soul and for his family,” Marin said of Arkel Matura, his constituent turned alleged attacker.
And while this weighs on him, he is thankful to be alive to tell the tale.
“Meanwhile I thank God that he has returned me safely to the bosom of my family, to carry on with the plan he has set for me.”
On behalf of his family he gratefully thanked all his well wishers for their support, good wishes and prayers, concluding, “I am grateful. May God bless you all.”
Police continue their investigations to be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
