Second round of Unemployment Relief Program begins Monday

Posted: Friday, August 28, 2020. 3:45 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: With apologies from the Prime Minister, payments through the National Bank of Belize Limited for the second round of the Unemployment Relief Program (URP) are expected to begin this coming Monday.

There has been delay, P.M. Barrow said, because of the shift from the Social Security Board (SSB) to the National Bank and the various issues with the application portal.

As of a few weeks ago, some 49,000 had applied for the six twice-monthly payments of $150, having qualified as being let go due to COVID-19 troubles. (Longer-term unemployed persons may apply under the BOOST program).

This week the Program announced that those with incorrect banking information need to contact their respective banks to correct this in order to receive their payments.
