Elderly man killed by africanized bees

By BBN Staff: An elderly man was killed by africanized bees late Thursday evening.  74 year old Roy ‘Kary’ Martinez, a resident of Blackman Eddy village, Cayo, and better known as Mr. Kary, was clearing land with a bulldozer in the Chiquibul area of the Mountain Pine Ridge when the incident occurred.

Martinez and his assistant were stung by a swarm of africanized bees and both of them tried to flee the scene. However, due to the amount of stings Martinez received, he ended up in an unconscious state. He was transported to the San Ignacio Hospital but was pronounced dead early Friday morning.

According to family members, this is the second time Roy ‘Kary’ Martinez has been stung by africanized bees while operating a bulldozer.
