Flood forecast: Water projected to recede in various parts of the country

By BBN Staff: Today the National Hydrological Service (NHS) issued its latest flood forecast, which shows that water levels in various areas of the country are expected to return to normal levels.

Water on the Rio Hondo at Blue Creek and downstream at Santa Cruz, San Antonio, San Roman, and Douglas are normal and the NHS expects that level will remain steady. Water levels on the New River at Tower Hill and Caledonia are expected to recede to near-normal levels., while at the Macal River, reservoir levels are expected to remain below the spillways at all dam facilities.

At San Ignacio, levels are expected to remain below the low-level bridge, while levels on the Mopan River at Benque Viejo Town, are normal and expected to stay that way. Normal and steady levels are expected on the Belize River at Banana Bank and Double Run. Receding levels are expected to continue over the next few days on the Crooked Tree Lagoon. Normal and steady levels are expected near Freetown Sibun on the Sibun River as well as on the Southern Lagoon near Gales Point Village.

On the Sittee River at Kendal Bridge normal and steady levels are expected. The Swasey and Bladen branch of the Monkey River is expected to recede to near-normal levels. On the Rio Grande at San Pedro Columbia and Big Falls normal and steady levels are expected to continue over the next few days. Normal and steady levels are expected to continue on the Moho River at Jordan and Blue Creek. On the Temash River at Crique Sarco normal and steady levels are expected. On the Sarstoon River, normal and steady levels are expected to continue over the next few days.

The NHS says that the next flood forecast will be produced on Friday, September 4, at noon.
