Director of Public Prosecutions to deliberate fate of Pablo Marin

Posted: Tuesday, September 1, 2020. 4:32 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Police say the information they have gathered about the death of suspected burglar Arkel Matura, 37, at the hands of Minister of Health Pablo Marin, 52, at Marin’s residence in Corozal Town Thursday night is in the hands of Director of Public Prosecutions, Cheryl-Lynn Vidal.

It will be her decision as to whether to proceed with charges or seek further information. A post-mortem examination of Matura’s body was scheduled for Monday.

Matura was caught burglarizing the Minister’s house and was shot twice by the Minister, who told police that Matura came charging at him with a knife. He then fired a warning shot and two more as Matura appeared to be running away.

Marin was detained, questioned, and released, and hours after via his Facebook profile, stated, “Last night was one of the most difficult nights of my life. As an intruder armed with a weapon broke into my house, I had no choice but to defend myself as I was fearful for my life. The outcome is devastating to me.”

Police say that they found a knife on the scene. They say that they also found a bag of Marin’s stolen belongings near to Matura, who was already deceased when the responding officers arrived on the scene.

The deceased man’s sister is insisting that the Minister should be criminally charged for unjustifiable use of deadly force.
