By BBN Staff: A tropical storm watch has been issued for Belize as Tropical Storm Nana is forecasted to approach the coast of Belize on Thursday.

Nana formed this morning in the Caribbean Sea and is the 14th named storm of the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane season.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) notes that a tropical storm watch is in effect for Northern Honduras,  Roatan Island, the Bay Islands of Honduras, and Belize.

Tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch areas by late Wednesday.

A Tropical Storm Watch may be required for portions of Guatemala and the southern Yucatan Peninsula later today.

Tropical Storm Nana is located over the central Caribbean Sea about 120 miles (195 km) south-southeast of Negril, Jamaica, and about 685 miles (1100 km) east of Belize City.

Nana is moving toward the west near 16 mph (26 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue through Thursday.

Nana is forecasted to be moving near but north of the coast of Honduras on Wednesday and likely be approaching the coast of Belize on  Thursday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles (130 km) from the center, mainly northeast through northwest of the center.

Additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Nana could become a hurricane just prior to landfall on Thursday.

Nana is expected to produce rainfall accumulations of 2 to 4 inches across northern Honduras, Belize, and the southeast portion of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo.
