Tropical Storm Watch issued for Belize

By BBN Staff: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) informs that the Government of Belize has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for the entire coast of Belize from north of Punta Barrios, Guatemala, northward to south of Chetumal, Mexico.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Northern Honduras, Roatan Island and the Bay Islands of Honduras and Belize.

A Tropical Storm Watch may be required for portions of Guatemala and the southern Yucatan Peninsula later today.

Tropical Storm Nana is located near latitude 16.6 North, longitude 77.9 West.

Nana is moving toward the west near 16 mph (26 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue through Thursday. 

Nana is forecasted to move near north of the coast of Honduras on Wednesday and likely be approaching the coast of Belize on  Thursday.

Reports from an Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft indicate that maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts.

Additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Nana could become a hurricane just prior to landfall on Thursday.
