Belize Electricity Limited begins assessment and repair operations following Hurricane Nana

By BBN Staff: Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) announced this morning that it is mobilizing teams in the Stann Creek and Toledo Districts to assess the impact of the hurricane on the power system.

“Customers in Hopkins and Placencia are currently without power supply due to the damages sustained to the power system in these areas. BEL is placing priority on these areas to determine the extent of damage in order to commence repairs and restore power supply,” BEL said.

BEL asked customers in other areas who may be experiencing localized power outages or have fallen or damaged power lines in their area to contact the company using toll-free number 0.800.BEL.CARE or 0-800-235-2273 or send a message via Facebook or the WhatsApp at +501-600-6097.

The National Meteorological Service reported that Hurricane Nana made landfall between Dangriga and Placencia, near Hopkins and Sittee River communities between 11:45 p.m. last night and 4:00 a.m. this morning, thankfully, there have not been any reports on injuries or deaths.
