By BBN Staff: Earlier this week, a video taken from a Facebook live stream of a woman being forced to perform oral sex on a man sparked intense public outrage; and today, the Human rights Commission of Belize (HRCB) is asking those in possession of the video to delete it.

The HRCB issued a statement today, condemning in the strongest, the way the woman’s human rights were violated and notes that the public has a responsibility to foster a healthy environment for women and children in Belize.

“Viewing and sharing a video of sexual and physical violence, even when done to condemn the act, further violates the dignity and rights of the victim,” the HRCB said.

The Commission also committed to monitoring the situation to ensure that the victim’s rights are protected.

Following the release of the video, the Office of the Special Envoy for Women and Children and the Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, issued statements condemning the act. Commissioner Williams said that he immediately tasked the Crimes Investigation Branch (CIB) to launch an investigation with a view to criminally charge the perpetrator.

Williams said that he has been in communication with the victim’s family and is hoping to get cooperation from the victims involved to ensure that the perpetrator is held accountable for what was done.
