Anthony ‘Boots’ Martinez to replace Sedi Elrington in Pickstock

By BBN Staff: Anthony ‘Boots’ Martinez is to replace Wilfred ‘Sedi’ Elrington as the United Democratic Party’s (UDP) standard bearer to face off with the PUP’s Anthony Mahler in the upcoming elections. This decision was announced today as the UDP finalized its list of 31 standard bearers to contest the general elections.

After only receiving 10 votes in his bid for party leader of the UDP in July this year, Sedi Elrington decided to end his political career, which he said began way back in the 1960’s. Elrington was first elected to Pickstock in 2008, then re-elected in 2012 and 2015.

In one of Elrington’s last address in the House of Representatives, he thrashed his own government for not putting together “any proposal or project…to treat the root cause of the problem” on the Southside of Belize City, which he claims is poverty and ignorance. Elrington was speaking on August 3rd on the extension of the state of emergency aimed at addressing crime and gang violence on the Southside.

In 2018, Anthony ‘Boots’ Martinez gave up his long standing representation in the Port Loyola constituency. This was followed by a high profile convention on November 4th 2018 where former City Councilor Philip Willoughby defeated Michael Peyrefitte to become the new UDP standard bearer in Port Loyola.

In the statement issued today, UDP also decided that Frank ‘Papa’ Mena will be endorsed for the Dangriga constituency and that Dr. Angel Campos will be endorsed for Corozal South West.
