By BBN Staff: The United Democratic Party (UDP) announced today that it has settled the nominations for its 31 standard-bearers in preparation for the upcoming general elections to be held later this year.
The UDP issued a statement today, which said that Frank “Papa” Mena will be endorsed for the Dangriga constituency and that Dr. Angel Campos will be endorsed for Corozal South West. Notably, there has been considerable contention with regard to Mena’s endorsement, with a group calling themselves the UDP Members Dangriga Constituency Action Group threatening to take it out on the party at the polls if Mena was endorsed.
“The Party places on record its gratitude to Mr. Elvis Buggie Correra and His Worship Mayor Francis Humphreys for putting the party’s interest before self. Both would have made excellent standard bearers if different circumstances existed,” the UDP said.
The UDP also confirmed that Anthony “Boots” Martinez, will be endorsed as the standard bearer for the Pickstock constituency, filling in the space left vacant by the departure of longtime standard bearer Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington.
The UDP says it now stands “fully united” and has declared that it will make history by becoming the country’s first four-term government.
