By BBN Staff: The National Evangelical Association of Belize (NEAB) is calling on each political party to make public their definitive stances on a number of national issues in preparation for the upcoming general elections.
NEAB issued a statement today which carried a call for each political party to specifically state how they will make progress on 1) Planning for economic recovery and recovery from the COVID-19 crisis; and II) The activation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), the Integrity Commission, and the Public Accounts Committee.
NEAB, which represents over 100 churches and congregations, also called on political aspirants to raise their standards on a number of issues, pointing to its own “Raising Standards Nonpartisan Evangelical Manifesto” which covers issues such as Traditional Marriage & Family, Gender Policy, Abortion, Drug Policy, Corruption, Guatemala, and
“Our standards on these issues have fallen dramatically since Belize gained independence in 1981. We have allowed foreign influences to erode our independence and our values. We call on all Belizeans, especially political candidates, to resolve to raise our standards back up again in the next five years—with God’s help,” NEAB said.
The group also said that it had sent a detailed list of questions on national issues to each party last week, and is looking forward to dialoguing with each party on those issues.
