Ministry of Health speaks on suicide prevention on today’s ask the experts

Posted: Tuesday, September 8, 2020. 10:35 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Health (MOH) is taking a specific focus on mental health issues and suicide prevention on today’s session of Ask the Experts.

The guests today are Juliet Simmons, Psychotherapist with the MOH’s Mental Health Programme, and Aimee Jex of the Mental Health Association.

Simmons explained that the focus on mental health is in connection with a series of events which will run into World Mental Health Day on October 10.

Among those scheduled events is the commemoration of World Suicide Prevention Day, which is celebrated globally on September 10.

Last week Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services with the MOH, explained that the Ministry has decided to focus on mental health due to increasing reports of people suffering from depression and anxiety bought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
