Man stabs himself to death after being confronted by police for not wearing a mask

By Aaron Humes: An unusual death has been reported in Belize City this morning.

According to police, around 11:15 a.m. today police on patrol in the area of Peter Seco Street observed and approached 26 year old Morgan Francisco Jr. who was on the street side without a face mask.

When police called his attention to the potential violation, he suddenly ran inside his house and apparently inflicted a stab wound to his left rib cage. Officers took him to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.

Violations of the COVID-19 Quarantine Regulations 2020, as instituted last week following the end of the latest state of emergency, face two years in jail or a $5,000 fine, and mandatory quarantine until they can be tested for COVID-19.
