Belize one of three Caribbean countries with recent COVID-19 death

Posted: Friday, September 11, 2020. 11:32 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The Jamaica Observer is reporting that only three Caribbean countries reported a COVID-19-related death in the past 24 hours and Belize is one of them.

The Observer notes that Belize joined Suriname as well as Trinidad and Tobago in reporting deaths related to the virus, which has killed over 900,000 people worldwide.

Officials in Suriname say that the country had reported 30 new cases and one death in the last 24 hours, bringing its total number of deaths to 93.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Ministry of Health reported some 35 new cases and three deaths, two of which were men who reportedly had comorbid conditions. The total number of deaths there stands at 43.

Belize’s Ministry of Health issued an update to the country’s COVID-19 situation yesterday, noting that the country had seen 34 new cases and one additional death, bringing the total number of deaths to 19.

Health officials in Belize continue to encourage all Belizeans to follow all health and safety guidelines established by the National COVID-19 Oversight Committee, and report incidents of border jumping to the authorities.
