By BBN Staff: On Wednesday night, the PUP launched their Agricultural Plan for Belize virtually from Fort Cairns market in Orange Walk town.

As a prelude to the more detailed presentation made by Jose Mai, PUP Leader, John Briceno said that the party’s agricultural plan is pro-agro business and pro-farmers.

The launch was hosted under the theme: “ From farm to table with love” and included first hand experiences from Belizean farmers.

Briceno explained that Belize can feed itself with grains, vegetables, chicken, beef and other livestock.

“It is our aim to fully realize our full potential,” Briceno stated.

He also reminded the nation of the challenges farmers faced with onions and potatoes spoiling under the UDP’s watch.

Briceno also blamed the UDP for neglecting the agriculture sector for 12 and a half years, and for overseeing the end of the papaya industry in the north. “They ignored the cries of the people to invest in the productive sector to grow more for Belize,” Briceno said.

The party says that it consulted with farmers, farm leaders, producers, professionals and politicians in order to come up with the comprehensive plan.
