By BBN Staff: Ever wondered if you can contract COVID-19 and still have the flu?

A report by CNN that included expert professional advice from doctors explained that patients can have COVID-19 and the flu at the same time.

The Director of the Stanford Health Communication Initiative, Dr. Seema Yasmin said that the flu weakens patients immune system.

“Your defenses go down, and it makes you vulnerable to getting a second infection on top of that,” Dr. Yasmin said.

Health professionals also noted that COVID-19 and the flu can attack the lungs.

Patients who contract COVID-19 and have the flu at the same time can suffer from longer term effects to their organ systems.

The two viruses together could be more injurious to the lungs.

Health professionals urge the public to wear their face masks and take all precautionary measures.
