By Aaron Humes: Police have made arrests in two high-profile recent murder cases in Belize City.
For the murder of Nelson “Ricky” Miguel of Dangriga on September 7, police have arrested and charged 22-year-old Leroy Bardalez with murder, attempted murder, dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm.
Miguel, a construction worker, and Thalia Westby were shot inside a green Ford Escort on Fabers’ Road Extension. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said last week that a domestic dispute – a “man issue” as he termed it – was behind the shooting.
A few days later, a relative of Miguel’s, Andrew Flores, 34, was slashed to the throat at his Kelly Street apartment, allegedly by 28-year-old Whitfield Fisher, Jr., who was apprehended after “an intensive search” by Police and arraigned in court on Monday.
Flores had objected to one of Fisher’s friends visiting the residence and the two later got into conflict which ended with Fisher allegedly slashing Flores in front of his mother and partner, with whom he has an infant son.
