By Aaron Humes: Minister of Human Development Anthony Martinez defended his Ministry’s handling of the Food Assistance Program.
First, he pointed out that each package on collection has to be signed for by the recipient or a person he or she designates, ensuring that no one unauthorized is collecting.
Because the Program is funded by international assistance, Martinez said, each step is documented for their approval.
You must apply and be approved, then be texted to pick up the items and sign the invoice. The Ministry even follows up to ensure the package is collected. The process is “simple and easy,” he contended.
Ultimately, the PUP’s dilemma, Martinez said, is they were co-architects of the program on the National Oversight Committee and have seen it work well, but they bowed to political dictates and stepped away and are now seeking to justify that decision.
