Police reclassify Victor Pratt death as murder after post-mortem examination

By Aaron Humes: Victor Hugo Pratt, 33, died from a gunshot wound to the chest, not from injuries sustained in a road traffic accident, according to the results of a post-mortem examination done on Wednesday evening.

Pratt was found dead beside his motorbike near Mile 19 on the Old Northern Road Tuesday afternoon. He had been riding from Maskall to Sandhill.

But the attendant doctor concluded from his examination of the body that, put simply, someone shot the Santana resident, causing massive internal bleeding and blood to collect in the chest cavity and pericardial sac of the heart. The shot penetrated and tore apart the lungs, pericardial sac and aortic arc of the heart, likely causing near-immediate death from organ failure.

Police investigations continue.
