By BBN Staff: The 2020 Atlantic Hurricane season continues to be an active one and the 2020 list of hurricane names have only one name left, Wilfred.

The storm names used this season are Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Edouard, Fay, Gonzalo, Hanna, Isaias, Josephine, Kyle, Laura, Marco, Nana, Omar, Paulette, Rene, Sally, Teddy and Vicky.

For only the 2nd time in history, if the names are exhausted, the Greek alphabet will be used.

On Monday, the National Hurricane Center issued advisories for 5 storms in the Atlantic.  This ties the record for the most number of tropical cyclones in that basin at one time, last set in September 1971.

As for storm names, the lists keeps rotating names in alphabetical order and are used every six years. However, if a hurricane is particularly devastating or deadly, its name is retired and a new one selected.

The use of the Greek alphabet has only been done once before in 2005, when 6 names from the Greek alphabet was used.
