PEACE Movement addresses “leaked” Wil Maheia letter

Posted: Friday, September 18, 2020. 5:54 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: This evening, chairperson of the Belize PEACE Movement Robert “Bobby” Lopez said the letter widely circulated today was not so intended.
The letter called on Belize Progressive Party candidate and co-claimant in the Redistricting Case Wil Maheia to step aside from the case or cease being a political candidate.

Lopez described the missive as an “internal document” not intended to be disseminated beyond the claimants, including Maheia, but it was leaked. Lopez reserved comment until after the Movement’s executive meets this weekend and drafts an official statement.

On the status of the case, Lopez said a date has yet to be determined as the court is on an extended break beyond the usual recess at this time, caused by COVID-19 which has forced multiple shutdowns of the Court and General Registry as workers caught the virus.
