Belize Territorial Volunteers met by Guatemalan Armed Forces in Belizean waters on trip to Sarstoon Island

By BBN Staff: The Belize Territorial Volunteers (BTV) embarked on a trip to Sarstoon Island in the Sarstoon river on the border with Guatemala this morning to honor two fallen members of the organization when the group was accosted by members of the Guatemalan Armed Forces.

Pictures provided by Wil Maheia of the BTV and our colleagues from PGTV show the group leaving for the islan by boat this morning to plant a Belizean flag in honor of Hubert Pipersberg and Nedal McLaren, two distinguished former members of the BTV before their respective deaths this year.

According to Maheia, the group was met by GAF on the Belizean side of the river and images show GAF approaching the vessel with Belizeans.

Other details of the encounter have not yet been confirmed but BBN has reached out to Maheia for comment.
