By BBN Staff: The People’s United Party (PUP) is launching their women and family agenda virtually tonight.

In his opening statement, PUP Leader John Briceno began by recognizing the father of the nation, George Price on National Service Day. Briceno spoke about the legacy that Price left of a life of service to the Belizean people.

The National Anthem was then performed by renowned Belizean musician, Kylon Eiley.

Members of the United Women’s Group (UWG) recited the National Prayer.

The official welcome address was given by Chair of the UWG, Erica Jang.

“ We all know that the masterpiece of this agenda is the family….of course the icing on the cake is that our party chose this day, National Service Day,a  day when we honor the father of our nation to launch these policies,” Jang stated.

Briceno was joined by members from the United Women’s Group and women professionals of Belize in virtual discussions surrounding the PUP’s plans and policies to empower women and families in Belize.

As the government in waiting, the PUP pledges to:

Secure women’s access and affordability to proper healthcare services throughout their life cycle (girls, adolescents, child bearing, and older women)

Empower women through creation of economic opportunities

Increase women’s access to and ownership of affordable land and housing

Achieve gender equality and equity and end discrimination against women and girls

Promote Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

Guarantee the equitable participation of women in leadership and governance

Strengthen and expand measures to ensure the safety and security of women and girls

The PUP says that it will establish policies to build family unity, commitment and resilience and provide social connections to assist and encourage families.
