By Aaron Humes: He missed the Tenth again in Belize City due to COVID-19 restrictions, but Leader of the Opposition John Briceño has promised to deliver his usual Independence Day address in person in Belmopan tomorrow, Monday.
That ceremony is expected to be socially distanced with fewer guests than normal as nationally the country is still under COVID-19 quarantine regulations that limit public gatherings to ten persons or fewer.
It will be his last address opposite Prime Minister Dean Barrow, and rather than repeat the litany of charges of corruption and incompetence against his outgoing administration, Briceño plans to speak of new hope.
“Our statement is going to be a hopeful one, one with vision. It’s about not continuing to look at the past, at all the issues of corruption, incompetence and the vindictiveness that has been pretty much what the UDP represents. My message is going to be one of hope, a hopeful message, that as Belizeans we can come together. And we can take on any task, any challenge, and we can move this country forward together.”
