By Aaron Humes: Leader of the Opposition John Briceno pointed to the sacrifices and resilience of Belize in promising that we will bounce back despite our challenges.
Some of our wounds are self-inflicted, he did not hesitate to point out. Corrupt practices and poor choices have brought Belize to this pass even before COVID-19.
But in our health care workers and security forces; in our teachers and our farmers, and even in ourselves and our daily lives, we see the seed of Belizean spirit.
Now, we must focus, he said, on making education affordable and relevant; jobs plentiful and creative; farms bountiful; security forces respected and not feared; a society in which all can live and work according to their means.
And ahead of the poll due in the coming weeks, the choice, he said, is more of the same, or true change, no matter how difficult.
