By BBN Staff: A police officer from Dangriga town has been detained in connection with a report of aggravated assault after reportedly pointing a pellet gun at a group of people and threatening to kill them.

According to police reports, a group of friends were socializing at a residence on Mopan Street in Belize City when a police mobile arrived to perform a stop and search on several men who were standing in front of the yard. After police left, a van reportedly arrived and parked in front of the yard.

A woman from the group then reportedly approached the van and got in before allegedly being cursed and berated by the driver. According to the group, the van’s driver then pointed a black shotgun at the group through the van’s window and threatened to come back and shoot up the group before leaving with the woman who had gotten in the van.

He was later stopped by police in his Toyota Hiace van on Central American Boulevard. Police found a black pellet gun in the van. He was escorted to Precinct 1 and has been charged for aggravated assault.
