By Aaron Humes: Almost at the time Belize started to experience a second surge of COVID-19 cases, security forces, long on the frontline, started to lose members to the virus.

Police, Coast Guard, and Belize Defence Force (BDF) members alike were felled, reaching a height of 42 per Director of Health Services Dr. Marvin Manzanero.

Police had reported the first cases primarily in the North – the Corozal and Orange Walk Districts.

But Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said today that the outbreak has since been mostly contained among his ranks.

“I don’t think at this time it is more than ten. The majority of our officers have recovered – thank God for that. And the amount of officers getting infected now is not as much as before. So I think right now we have ten active cases,” the Commissioner said.
