Island Expeditions raising funds to help families impacted by the COVId-19 pandemic

Posted: Thursday, September 24, 2020. 8:33 am CST.

By BBN Staff: For 33 years, Island Expeditions has served tourists and Belize as one of the premier adventure travel companies, but like many tourism sector businesses, the company was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. As tourism ground to a halt in Belize, the Island Expedition staff and many Belizeans were suddenly left with no means of earning a living.

Determined to help those who were displaced by the pandemic, the company launched a fundraiser to help its team cope with financial difficulty and is calling on the support of the broader community for assistance.

The company launched a GoFundme page, with the sole purpose of helping its staff get some much-needed financial assistance to meet their needs as Belize navigates the uncertainties of safely reopening the tourism sector.

“We want to do more to help and are reaching out to our guests who have traveled to Belize and experienced the amazing warmth and hospitality of our Belizean staff.  Any small donation is hugely appreciated and will help to keep the lights on in a home and put much-needed food on the table,” the company said.

Those wishing to assist can make a donation here: (https://www.gofundme.com/f/new-island-expeditions-belize-team-fund)

Island Expeditions opened in 1987, offering kayaking and snorkeling tours in the South Water Caye Marine Reserve which is now a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site.
