By Aaron Humes: This morning, it’s the ladies’ – or more accurately, the spouses – turn at the United Nations General Assembly.

The network of Spouses of CARICOM Leaders Action Network (SCLAN) in collaboration with the Spotlight Initiative and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Belize Country Office as key partner, will meet virtually to discuss “Engaging Men and Boys to Advance Gender Equality” at 9:00 a.m. Belize time, 11 a.m. New York time.

The conference will advocate for developing projects/programs to engage men and boys to advance gender equality. It will also facilitate knowledge exchange to positively contribute to progress in key areas, such as reducing gender-based violence and will identify critical areas for collaboration and practical implementation support.

The forum will build upon the long- term efforts set forth by the global community, including former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Every Woman, Every Child Global Movement, and the Global Strategy for Women’s Children’s and Adolescents’ Health (2016-2030).

Belize’s Kim Simplis Barrow is a guest, joined by partners from the Bahamas; Paraguay and Zimbabwe, as well as Denise Antonio, Resident Representative United Nations Development Programme in Jamaica, Belize, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos; Giovanna Lauro of Promundo; James Arana of North American MenEngage Network; Kevin Liverpool of The Caribbean Male Action Network and CARICOM Youth Ambassador Kris Miller.

The First Ladies and Spouses of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) was launched in September 2017.
