Philip Goldson International Airport to re-open in 6 days

Posted: Friday, September 25, 2020. 9:36 am CST.

By BBN Staff: In only 6 days, the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) is set to re-open.

In the last few weeks, hoteliers in the tourism industry have been preparing to welcome guests back again to Belize.

The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) has noted that the country can expect full planes landing at the PGIA during the first week of October.

Two major airlines, American and United said that the demand for those flights has exceeded their capacity to serve them.

“If you go to American’s website right now you will think that they are not flying the first the second, or the third (of October) because you can’t even see the flight. They had to take them down because they are oversold,” said Karen Bevans, Director of Tourism with the BTB.

Earlier this week, the Belize Health App was launched.

Bevans explained that travelers coming to Belize will have to fill in the information on the app 72 hours before their arrival.

The app will then generate a unique code for each traveler which will be used to log the traveler’s movements at various points during their stay in Belize.

The app also provides pertinent information about Belize’s health and safety protocols for travelers coming to Belize. It can be downloaded at https://www.covid19.bz/.

The PGIA has been closed for tourism since March 23, 2020.
